Parade season will come to an end in Barry County this year with the Purdy parade. The event will take place on December 15 at 11 a.m.
“For as small of a town as we are, we get a great response,” said Julie Terry, organizer of the Purdy parade. “We have upwards of 60 entries.”
Line up for the parade will be at 10 a.m. at the Purdy High School parking lot. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will march a route from the high school to the Country Corner Market.
“This is something my husband, Ken, and I wanted to do for the community,” said Terry. “The community has been so good to support our fireworks stands every year.”
Starting from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on December 15 the Terrys will also be hosting a Christmas Village event at their community event venue, The Gathering Place. The event will feature refreshments, pictures with Santa, rides on the Santa Express, games, a station for writing letters to Santa, and trips to Santa’s workshop.
Tickets for the event will be available at the door of the Gathering Place on the day of the event. They will be $10 for children and $15 for adults.
Proceeds from the Christmas village event will go to the Purdy High School choir in order to help fund their trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, New York, where they will perform as part of a mass choir with schools from all across the country.
“We went to school here kindergarten through 12th grade and so did our kids. We love everything about our little community and we just wanted to give back.”
For additional information on parade activities. contact Purdy City Hall at (417) 442-3273 or Julie or Ken Terry at (417) 236-4139.
