The partially-burned house on Highway C in Purdy, known long ago as the Herb & Pauline Dodson home, has sat vacant and shuttered since a fire damaged much of its interior a few years ago.
The current owner, Sergio Perez, of Purdy, recently revealed plans to construct four homes on the vacant land to the west and south of the house.
“I’m waiting for information from the City of Purdy’s engineer before I can start,” Perez said. “They have to tell me where I can place water and sewer lines in order to hook up to public utilities.”
Perez indicated that after he starts, progress will be slow, since he will be doing most of the interior work on the houses himself.
“I’ll hire concrete and framing crews,” he said, “but after that it will just be me.”
Perez, who has a roofing and construction business, says he enjoys having construction projects of his own to work on in his spare time. He recently finished remodeling the vintage home directly east of Dollar General in Purdy.
Perez anticipates building four 1,500 to 2,000 square feet homes on the former Dodson property, each with two baths and either three or four bedrooms.
“The size of the houses will depend a lot on the cost of materials at the time,” Perez said.
