Purdy driver seriously injured after hit by train

The driver of a pick up was seriously injured when he failed to yield of a train last week in Purdy. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, Alonzo Barrientos, 18, of Purdy, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup on Washington Avenue in Purdy when he failed to yield and crossed into the path of a train.
Barrientos was traveling eastbound on Washington Avenue when he pulled into the path of the train around 12:55 p.m. on Friday, January 19. The report stated Barrientos sustained serious injuries in the crash and he was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for those injuries. It is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
According to the report, the intersection of the tracks and Washington is marked with a crossbuck only.
The driver of the train, an Arkansas/Missouri Railroad SMTN Diesel/Electric locomotive, was Michael D. Richardson, 49, of Lowell, Ark. The engine only sustained minor damage while the pickup was totaled as a result of the crash. Richardson had no reported injuries from the incident.
