Purdy June 2020 School Board Meeting
July 8, 2020
Mary Hagens
New employees, summer school attendance, gym floor replacement, and budget matters were the focus of the June 22nd Purdy Board of Education meeting.
After the initial closed executive meeting, the Board went into its regular session to approve the minutes, financial reports, bills, and administrative reports and to share a note of thanks from the Brown family.
Despite the COVID-19 break, Summer School attendance was very close to that of previous years.
Superintendent Mindi Gates said, “It was great having kids back in our building!”
Seated classes for grades K-6 and credit recovery for high school students went well.
Superintendent Gates updated the Board on the insurance replacement of the gym floor. Due to moisture damage, swelling and splitting had occurred in several areas of the 46-year-old floor. The project should be completed by the beginning of August.
In new business, the Board voted to employ Victoria Taylor, 5th grade, and Madeline Basham, 7-12 band. They approved extra duty assignments for Mica Propps, Mackenzie Cormier, and Madeline Basham.
Additionally, the Board approved zeroing out the Fund 2 balance at the end of Fiscal Year 2020, transferring $299,940 from Fund 1 to Fund 4, and amending the 2019-2020 working budgets to actuals after final transactions. Board members voted to amend the 2019-2020 PDC budget, spending 50 percent of the required 1 percent for Professional Development, due to the COVID-19 Wellness Break. The Bond Proceeds account was closed, and the 2020-2021 preliminary budget was approved.
Important upcoming events include the next regular board meeting on July 20th at 7:00 PM, the Fiscal Year 2020 Audit on July 28th-29th, and the 2020-2021 Tax Rate Hearing on August 17th at 7:00 PM. The Board met in a brief executive session and then adjourned.
