On Friday, August 2, several student organizations from Purdy Schools will host a barbeque to benefit the Propps family after the tragic passing of their patriarch. Kevin Propps passed away on July 4 due to heart complications. His widow, Mica Propps, is currently employed as the Purdy High School secretary and their children Kaden, Kyler and M’kena, have all been students in the district.
The event is sponsored by the Purdy FFA, Purdy FFA alumni, Purdy’s FBLA, and Purdy FCCLA.
“There’s a lot of people coming together to make this happen,” said Jordan Ellis, Purdy agriculture teacher and FFA adviser. “The Propps family are a local family that are near and dear to our school and the community in general. They’ve been involved in this school for a long time.”
All members of the public are welcome at the event. Plates will cost attendees $10. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches with two sides, dessert and a drink. There will also be takeout containers available for attendees who wish to take their food to go.
Additional donations will be accepted during the barbeque, as well. There will be a donation box made available for additional contributions.
The event will also include a raffle with items donated by the public up for grabs. Chances at the raffle cost $10 per entry. Two items in the raffle are public at the time of publication. The first is a golden retriever puppy that is registered and fully vaccinated. The second of these is a Henry Golden Boy lever-action rifle.
“We just wanted to do something for the family to help them in any way we can,” said Ellis. “We thought that a dinner would be a good way to help them and do what they’ve done for everyone else. We’re talking about a family who has given time, funds and anything else you can imagine to the school. They’ve been great supporters of the school and the students here, and it’s time for us to give back to them.”
The barbeque will be held in the Purdy High School cafeteria on Friday, August 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All members of the public are welcome. For more information, contact Purdy Schools at (417) 442-3273.
