On Friday, May 17, Roaring River Health and Rehab (RRH&R), an assisted living facility in Cassville, will host an open house event. The facility will open its doors to provide an afternoon of entertainment for the whole family.
Roaring River’s open house will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature party games, rented bounce houses and fair food.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and chips will be served at the event free of charge, however, snow cones and cotton candy will be available for $1 each. A $5 donation gets attendees a wristband for unlimited jumping privileges in the bounce houses.
There will also be a raffle for several to-be-announced items donated to RRH&R by one of the hospices partnered with the facility. Funds raised by the raffle will go to new bar-be-cue grill for residents to benefit from.
According to Norma Kirkpatrick, RRH&R activities director, the open house is part of a larger effort on the part of Roaring River Health and Rehab to celebrate National Nursing Home Week, which falls on the week of May 13 through May 17. Roaring River staff will host and participate in different celebratory events throughout the week.
The kick off to the celebration will be on Mother’s Day, May 12, when they will host an ice cream bar and have flowers available to residents.
On Monday, May 13, the staff and residents will don red, white and blue themed apparel and costumes, culminating in a costume contest.
Cassville Mayor Bill Shiveley will also be present at the facility to give a proclamation officially kicking off the week’s celebrations. Shiveley is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. on Monday.
On Tuesday, May 14, the facility will host a sports day with staff and residents encouraged to dress in outfits celebrating their favorite sports teams. This will be followed by crazy hat and hair day on Wednesday, tie dye day on Thursday, and finally, the open house on Friday.
According to Kirkpatrick, the yearly event is often looked forward to by staff and residents alike.
“The residents look forward to this week all year long. The staff dresses up, the residents dress up, this is one of their favorite weeks,” she said.
