Roaring River Resort Buys Sportman's Lodge; Set to Build 12 New Lodging Units

The Roaring River Resort and RV Park has purchased the Sportsman’s Lodge to construct 12 new lodging units.
After Missy and Don Craig’s January purchase of the Sportsman’s Lodge from a retiring Carlos Conner, it was only a few weeks before construction and renovation began. By the end of autumn, says Missy Craig, the property will become a lodging extension of the adjacent Roaring River Resort.
“We want to have an opportunity to expand down the road, so when a property bumps against yours, that’s a great opportunity,” says Craig.
She also states that the new developments will offer a unique staying experience, relative to the hospitality offered at the Roaring River Resort’s current establishment. “This is going to be a good compliment to what we have,” she says, “and it will give guests a different type of lodging. These will be bigger rooms, and more current. The current resort offers 21 hotel rooms, two apartments, and five cabins. The new lodging will offer 12 studio suites that will diversify options for our guests, and help compliment our current lodging portfolio.”
Though daunting, construction of this kind is not new for Don and Missy, as they have been improving and remodeling the Roaring River Resort since their purchase of the property in 2021.
“We remodeled most of the rooms,” Missy states, regarding the Resort, “and we’ve been remodeling since we purchased this property.”
She says that despite the challenge of a nationwide supply-chain issue for furniture, the project is expected to be completed on time, and will even have a few months of test-run time in preparation for Roaring River Opening Day 2023.
“The new rooms will be ready for opening day for sure, and we’re going to test run it this fall.”
Roaring River Resort and RV Park is in its 45th year of business, and is open all year.
