Rose leads Cassville with 9th place finish at state track

Lee Stubblefield
The 2016 MSHSAA state track meet for Class 3, 4 and 5 will most be remembered for the Friday washout. The meet was called immediately after the Class 3 girls 800 meter run on Friday, forcing a Plan B for Saturday's schedule. Some sprint events were run as timed finals in heats without prelims as a result. Other events were simplyinserted into the schedule in the normal progression of a single-day meet, making Saturday a long day for some teams and individuals. The final running event of the meet, which normally concludes by 4:30 PM, was reset for 6:50 PM.
The boys distance runners took a hit, with all classes of the 3200 meter run moved to Saturday. Ordinarily, the 4x800 meter relay are one day with the 1600 and 800 paired on the other to allow a reasonable and safe recovery for those athletes.
Cassville results
Audra Brooks placed 10th in the Class 3 girls shot, throwing 34-09.25. California's Audrey Pickering took the gold medal with a throw of 44-02.25.
In the Class 3 girls javelin exhibition, Cassville's Josi Rose placed 9th with a throw of 99-08. In the Class 3 boys javelin exhibition, Cassville's Arther Reed and Steven Hunter finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Reed's best throw was 117-04, while Hunter threw 98-10.
