Sales tax revenue up for the month for county, Cassville

Both Barry County and the City of Cassville received a significant bump in sales tax revenue collected in May. Funds received at the first of June were up 21.46 percent over 2014’s totals for the county and up 13.8 percent for Cassville over 2014. Cassville also received the largest total to date on their relatively new 3/8-cent transportation sales tax.
Barry County received $201,581.24 that was collected through May. For 2014, that total was only around $164,000, giving the county a big jump in revenue of an extra $31,116.73 for the month in General Revenue.
May was also good month for the county’s 1/8-cent sales tax, bringing in $50,367.24, an increase of $9,627.02 over last year’s totals.
The City of Cassville’s general one-cent sales tax collected in May was $81,096.42. The 13.8 percent increase meant $9,846.59 over 2014’s collected funds. The transportation sales tax instituted last year after citizens passed the 3/8-cent transportation tax was $30,392.38 for the month. The funds received at the beginning of June for May’s collections were much higher than each month prior. Tax received monthly for the transportation sales tax was running in the mid-$20,000’s prior to this month.
For the year, the city of Cassville is still up 5.6 percent in sales tax revenue over 2014. A sharp downturn in revenue last month had brought that figure down, but May’s figures raised the annual total.
Barry County is up 5.72 percent for the year on sales tax revenue. That increase meant an additional $50794.45 for the year for the county thus far.
