School board elections open for candidates

Area school boards opened up for candidates to file for the April election on Tuesday. Cassville, Exeter, Purdy, Southwest, Shell Knob and Wheaton all have two seats each open for candidates to file for. As per the State Statute, each of the districts have opened the filings beginning on Tuesday, December 15, at 8 a.m. and are closing on January 19, 2016, at 5 p.m.
Cassville’s current board members in those positions are Greg Allen and Hal Smith. At the end of the first day of filing, candidates Chad Yarnall and Jeremy Marple filed for the open seats.
Exeter’s current board members in those seats are Brad Porter and Eric O’Neill. Porter refiled for his seat, but no others thus far.
Purdy’s seats that are open for filings are currently filled by Ed Mareth and Todd Schallert. Both incumbents filed for their seats.
Southwest Board members’ seats filled by Bobby Stephens and Brian Robbins are up filing. No one filed for either seat the first day.
Shell Knob’s seats occupied by Robert Grassino and Rusty Rickard are up for election. The first day of filings, Grassino filed as well as William Kenagy III.
Wheaton’s two seats are currently occupied by Kendall Haynes and Dan Goostree. No one filed for the seats the first day.
Applicants can file for their candidacy at their district’s superintendent’s office during regular business hours. Each of the district offices will be closed during the winter break. This year’s election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.
