Cassville School Board Notes: June
June 23

With vaping invading the high and middle schools, the Cassville School Board now campaigns to counteract it.
Four smoke detectors have been placed in the middle school bathrooms, where it’s been known to be prevalent; however, the devices can detect any marijuana-related vapes, as well as regular vaping. For a price tag of $1,100 each, their sensitivity is extreme.
Sound monitors have also been implemented in the restrooms to prevent fights.
Resignations were accepted from Brian Barbee and Lauren Reedy, along with a liquidated damages penalty of $500.
The Golden schoolhouse was sold to the Golden Baptist Church for $30,001, beating out the second place bid of $30,000.01.
The Board has raised the Certified salary schedule base by $1,000, which moves the base from $36,500 to $37,500.
Thursday, June 17, was Richard Asbill’s final school board meeting before he vacates his position as superintendent and begins his new position in Bolivar. Asbill was bid heartfelt farewells from the board, as well as by several staff members. A plaque was given to Asbill to commemorate his eleven-year service in the Cassville School District, years those who have worked alongside him look back upon fondly.
“I have been blessed,” Asbill said, “by being part of a truly great school system and so many great colleagues. Kari, Sawyer, and I wish you each of you all the best and pray that our efforts to achieve together would remain strong.”
