School board seats open for filing

Though it seems that the school year has only just begun, Barry County schools are nearly halfway through their calendar year. Much like every year before, this means that the time has come for filings to open for various school board elections.
Filings for school board candidates opened on Tuesday, December 17, and will remain open until Tuesday, January 21, 2020. School board seats, along with all other elected positions and issues on the ballot, will be voted on in the general elections on April 7, 2020.
In Cassville, three school board seats will be on the 2020 ballot. Incumbents for theses seats are David Haddock, Jon Horner and Becky Henningson. All Cassville school board positions carry a three-year term.
At this time, both Henningson and Horner have filed for re-election and will be joined on the ballot by Dr. Chad Johnson, owner and operator of Johnson Chiropractic Sports and Wellness Clinic in Cassville.

In Exeter, the three seats that will be open for election are currently held by Gary Stringer, Stacy Hall and Kelly Lee.
At this time, no filings have been received in Exeter’s school board race.
Candidates can file their paperwork at Exeter Public School. For more information, contact the superintendent’s office at (417) 835-2922.
In Wheaton, three board seats will also be on next year’s ballot. The incumbents for these seats are Tony Ball, Joe Brattin and Lewis Royer. All paperwork for candidates can be found and filed at the Wheaton superintendent’s office.
At this time, only one incumbent, Lewis Royer, has filed for the 2020 election.

The Purdy School District will also feature three seats up for election in 2020. Incumbents for these seats are Travis Brown, Tray Goetz and Russ Mill. Filing for candidacy can be done at the Central office between 8 p.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, contact the Purdy Schools at (417) 442-3216.
So far, only one candidate, incumbent Travis Brown, has filed for re-election in Purdy.
In Monett, three seats on the school board will be on the 2020 ballot. The seats are currently occupied by Dr. Jeff Carr, Jim Randall and current board president, Dr. Darren Bass. All seats carry with them a three-year term.
Currently, both Bass and Carr have filed for re-election. Additionally, newcomer Kaley Thigpen has filed for election.

In Shell Knob, three board seats will also be up for election in 2020. The seats are currently occupied by Stephen Crandall, Roger Pinnell and Howard Tremble.
At this time, only Crandall has filed for re-election.

Finally, in the Southwest School District, there will also be three seats on the ballot. Incumbents for these seats are Doug Henry, Terry Meek and Ruth Henderson.
