Security camera captures catalytic converter theft at Mike’s

Picture
Two unidentified males drove the red Dodge pickup (above, right) onto the lot of Mike’s Auto Care early Saturday morning and removed the catalytic converters from three vehicles parked there. One suspect can be seen beneath the white pickup, above left, in footage captured on the business’s security camera. A second suspect can be seen in additional camera footage. Anyone with information about the identity of the men is asked to call the sheriff’s office.

Mike Clifton, owner of Mike’s Auto Care, at the corner of Farm Road 2160 and Highway 37 north of Cassville, reported that catalytic converters were stolen from three of the vehicles sitting in his parking early Saturday morning.
“I wasn’t aware of it until one of the vehicle’s owners started his up in preparation for driving it off the lot early Monday morning,” Clifton said. “When he called me later and said he’d just pick it up when I had the exhaust-work finished, I knew there was a problem. ‘I didn’t work on the exhaust system,’ I told him.”
Upon checking below the vehicle, Clifton discovered the catalytic converter had been removed.
“Then,” Clifton said, “I reviewed my security camera and discovered footage of the thieves in action. Within a 20-minute time frame, beginning at about 4:30 a.m., I saw at least two men working together to remove the converters from three vehicles: a van, a pick-up and an R.V.”
Clifton said the thieves drove a newer model red Dodge pickup and appeared to be well-practiced.
Sheriff Danny Boyd said they are working on a lead in connection with the incident.
“This is the third report of a catalytic converter theft in the last month,” he said.
Anyone with information about the suspects is urged to call the sheriff’s office or the Cassville Police Department.
If vehicles must be left outside, residents are advised to park them in well-lit areas near their houses, or where they can be easily seen by passers-by.
