Valerie Speer was born and raised in Cassville. As a known presence in area schools for over a decade, Speer wears a new hat after finding her passion doing embroidery.
Speer owns and operates Forever Yours Embroidery located on the Cassville square. “I wanted an embroidery machine and eventually got one. Soon, embroidery became my hobby, then my hobby became my passion,” said Speer.
Speer said, “My husband said I needed to start my own business and said he knew of a place on the square that I could use for a shop, so we looked into it.”
Speer added that starting a business was a little out of her comfort zone, but she is happy that she pursued it now. “My hobby became my job, and I love it,” said Speer.
Forever Yours Embroidery offers a variety of items. Personalized gifts, baby sets, birthday shirts, totes, monograms, embroidery, custom vinyl windows, wedding items, household items, backpacks, wood working items and custom children’s table and chair sets are all examples of items available.
“The most enjoyable thing about my job is allowing God to work through me with my clients. Sometimes people just need a smile, and I’m happy to provide them with that. Another great thing is creating somebody’s idea and seeing them like my work,” stated Speer.
“What’s most challenging about my job is the long hours. I come in early each day and usually work 65 plus hours a week. My busiest time of the year is October through December. Keith comes to help me during Christmas time,” said Speer.
In her off time, Speer likes to spend time with her grandchildren Kailyn, 5, and Kenzleigh, 3. She also likes going on date nights with her husband. “We take a ride on the motorcycle and usually go out to eat, mostly in Eureka Springs,” Speer said.
“My biggest influence in my life has been my parents. They taught me morals, ethics, people skills, how to love unconditionally, and most importantly, they taught me about God, that is the greatest gift of all,” said Speer.
After graduating from Cassville High School, Speer went on the attend Crowder College and later Missouri Southern State University. Speer graduated with a Bachelors degree in Science Education
Throughout the years, Speer taught school for 15 years at Southwest and Wheaton, farmed over 120,000 chickens for George’s, and home schooled her children until her youngest was in high school.
Speer has been married to her husband, Keith, for 30 years. They have one son, Justin, who is married to Samantha. Their daughter, Ashley, is married to Trevor Shumaker.
