Seligman park updates mean more summer fun

After a lot of dedication by city workers and the Seligman City Council, the Seligman parks are open and ready for use this summer, with more improvements on the way.
For a number of years, Seligman’s City Park was on the north part of town. Due to acts of vandalism and other issues, the city opened a separate park outside City Hall which has a skate park, playground equipment and a splash pad for children during the summer. This summer, the splash pad is already open, with hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until the weather turns too cool to keep it on, usually in October. The north side park is closed, but new additions will make it ready for the public again soon.
At the park near City Hall, so far this year, the city has put in a new paved walkway form the parking lot to the splash pad, as well as a concrete walkway around the splash pad. They also replaced the armor on the skate park ramps. This month, the city put in new playground equipment which includes an airplane teeter-totter and jungle gym as well as additional benches for seating around the splash pad and playground areas.
Now, the city is working on the next stage of updates to the original park on the north side. At the May city council meeting, the aldermen voted to approve a walking track to be put in, and Allen Lawrence won the bid for the project. Next, city clerk Brian Nichols said that park lighting will be installed and a security camera system ordered to ensure the park doesn’t succumb to more vandalism in the future. They will also be installing new bathroom fixtures where the previous ones were vandalized.
Next year, Nichols said they plan to vote on having outdoor exercise equipment installed at the north side park for a place for Seligman residents to be able to exercise while their children can play on the playground equipment.
