Shakin’ in the Shell to bring a good time this weekend
September 11, 2019
Shell Knob will hold “the biggest little fall festival in the Ozarks” on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14. The popular event will provide family fun and entertainment starting on Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at Chamber Park just off Highway 39 in downtown Shell Knob. Parking and admission to the fairgrounds is free.
Friday evening’s line-up includes several food booths and a beer and wine garden. Stroll the grounds to visit a variety of retail booths and a boat, motorcycle, kayak and outdoors show. The night will be capped off with a free concert by the popular Earl and Them.
Saturday opens with the 31st annual Classic and Custom Car Show from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Activities and events for the whole family run from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The beer and wine garden, festival food booths and a farmer’s market will be on-site all day, along with retail booths and the outdoors show. Children can enjoy carnival rides, bungee jump, bubble soccer, face painting, rock wall climbing and camel rides. There is a charge for some of these activities.
Axe throwing from 4:00 to 6:00 and tethered hot air balloon rides from 5:00 to 7:00 are scheduled for the more adventurous. On-stage performances will occur throughout the day including local school bands, Dickerson Park Zoo animals (including, among many others, a red-tailed boa, Peregrine falcon, bearded dragon and great horned owl) and a Veteran’s Salute with a live eagle. Cool off at the misting tent or enjoy the “man cave.” Try your hand at the horseshoe pitching tournament with Pete Ploss, 2019 Missouri State Champion or enter the Talent Contest, open to all ages with acts judged on Originality, Showmanship, Overall Performance and Stage Presence. Both of these contests have significant cash prizes.
Enjoy the Little Miss/Mr. Shell Knob contest and be sure to check out the elaborately decorated facilities of the Porta Potty Contest. Our canine friends are always welcome to participate in the Bark in the Park contest with ribbons and prizes. Dogs can win in categories of Ugliest Dog, Best Trick, Looks Most Like Owner, Smallest Dog, Largest Dog, Best Costume and King and Queen. Janice Swofford will demonstrate how to show a dog and there will be a dog training demonstration by T’s dogs. More information on the competitions is available at www.shakinfest.com.
The day winds up with a free concert featuring Switch It Up! from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy an early fall evening under the stars. No coolers, please. Be sure to get your one-of-a-kind Shakin’ T-shirt and once-in-a-lifetime Shell Knopoly game at the Chamber booth.
Shell Knob’s exciting Shakin’ in the Shell Festival is planned by the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of many area businesses: diamond sponsor Area71; platinum sponsor Harter House; and gold sponsors MariCorp U.S., The Harbor, Jug N Plug and SS Dockside Cafe and Pub. Along with many other festival sponsors, Shell Knob invites you to join in the fun and activities at the biggest little fall festival in the Ozarks on September 13 and 14 in beautiful downtown Shell Knob, Missouri on Table Rock Lake.
