Share the Harvest, a program offered through the Conservation Federation of Missouri, donated 600 pounds of processed venison to the Cassville Pantry on March 24, 2021.
The Share the Harvest effort provides a means for hunters to donate some of their harvest to help feed hungry people who can greatly benefit from the low fat and high protein value found in the meat.
“Protein is a highly sought after product to distribute at the pantry,” said Cassville Pantry director, Janet Mills. “We aspire to give out quality items with optimum nutritional value, such as the venison. Food products of this high-protein nature are tremendously beneficial to our pantry visitors. We feel very blessed to receive this shipment from the Share the Harvest program. What a great way for the local hunters to be able to give back to their local community.”
The deer that were donated to the Pantry were harvested from southwest Missouri. Hunters who participate in the program have the option to donate an entire deer, or a part of a deer, to area participating food pantry agencies.
