Active cases of COVID-19 are again on the increase in Barry and surrounding counties.
The Barry County Health Department reports that 10.34 percent of tests administered during the December 9 through December 21 reporting period were positive. The positivity rate for the previous reporting period was 8.29 percent.
Ninety new cases of COVID-19 were reported, up from 80 new cases during the previous counting period.
According to the health department, six people have died from complications of COVID-19 during the same reporting period. Two patients were in the 41-60 age bracket; four were in the 61+ age bracket. All six patients suffered from significant underlying health conditions. Two were residents of congregate care facilities.
Although county health departments have been restricted, per orders from Missouri’s attorney general, from enacting and publishing further information about aspects of the virus regarding the isolation and quarantining of patients, Roger Brock encourages residents to take personal responsibility for their own health and that of those around them.
