The Barry County Sheriff’s Office is hoping the jewelry found with the skeletal remains in Jenkins will help family members identify them. Included were a bracelet, a watch band and a bottle opener ring.

The Barry County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying human remains found in rural Jenkins about a month ago. The Sheriff’s Department made a post on Facebook with photos of jewelry found with the body, asking the public to contact them if the jewelry looks familiar.
Barry County detective Doug Henry said the Sheriff’s Department’s first priority is identifying the body and contacting their family.
He said, “There is a family out there who doesn’t know where their loved one is at, and I’d like to get them back to them.”
Henry said the body was found on March 26 and sent immediately to a lab at the University of North Texas where all remains are shipped. He said, “We wanted to find out some answers from the lab before we put things out there to the public.”
At this time, there is no cause of death known, nor is the Sheriff’s Office aware of how long the body might have been buried. While no cause of death has been determined, Henry said that it is assumed there was foul play involved. He said, “A body doesn’t bury itself, and this person was buried until nature unburied the remains.”
The remains were found by a property owner who then contacted the Sheriff’s Department directly. The property is located on Farm Road 2120.
Photos of the person’s jewelry were posted to Facebook. The items included a bracelet, a bottle opener thumb ring, and a NEFF brand rubber watchband. Henry said, “We’re hoping someone recognizes it. If they have a family member who is missing who owned that jewelry, that’s a good indicator.”
No missing persons reported to Barry County match the remains found in Jenkins. Henry continued, “We have looked through the missing persons reported, and we contacted a few people and it came up negative.
“We want to find out who they are and who their family is so they can have some closure. Then, we’ll try to figure out what happened.”
If you have any information regarding this case, contact the Barry County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 847-6556.
