Soroptimists gift LeCompte

Shown above, Soroptimist members present a banner to Lecompte. Left to right are: Judy Hayes, Allison Angel, Jill LeCompte, Rachael Selby, Mindi Artherton, Kasey Hall and Cheryl Williams.
Jill LeCompte has served as a member of the Soroptimist International Club of Barry County for nearly 15 years. While those years have been filled with community service projects, fundraising efforts and awarding scholarship money to young women in our county, they have also been filled with lots of love, laughter and friendship.
When club members learned the news that LeCompte’s husband, Michael, had passed away unexpectedly they were heart-broken for their friend and fellow club member.
“We knew we could not take away Jill’s sadness and grief,” said Mindi Artherton, Soroptimist President, “but we wanted her to know she was loved. Our club members were heartbroken for our friend.”
Honoring the history of Michael and Jill’s love for Christmas, the ladies of Soroptimist have purchased 18 Christmas banners that will be hung along Main Street during the holiday season. The banners were offered to Jill and her family as a gift from the Soroptimist Club.
Soroptimist member Rachael Selby designed the banners.
“It is our hope that not only will Jill and her kids enjoy the banners during the holidays,” stated Artherton, “but they will also bring a little Christmas cheer to our entire community. We know Michael and Jill are all about spreading Christmas cheer!”
While the banners were not on display during the 2020 holiday season, Barry Electric Cooperative has graciously volunteered to hang them for future holiday seasons.
Soroptimist International Club of Barry County is a service organization that was chartered in 1994. The mission of the club is to improve the lives of women and children through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
