Southwest School superintendent Tosha Tilford opened the ceremony with an impassioned speech congratulating the class and reminiscing. The class of 2019 is the last group of Freshman that Tilford had as a principle before making the jump to superintendent.
Southwest Class of 2019 valedictorian Lane Cargile gave a speech to his class at the ceremony, culminating in the reveal that he had left a note to each of them under their chairs. Cargile read the not aloud to his classmates, eliciting a tremendous emotional reaction from the audience.
On Friday, May 10, families, students and teachers gathered in the Southwest gymnasium to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2019.
During the Southwest graduation ceremony, Laisha Sanchez was joined by an ensemble of other Class of 2019 graduates who formed a backing band that accompanied her dazzling, high-flying color guard routine.
