Southwest track and field places in local meets

Southwest Senior Trevor Sneed won the 400 meters and sophomore John Scannell the long jump to lead the Southwest boys to third place in the School of the Ozarks Relays at Point Lookout on the campus of College of the Ozarks last week.
Sneed ran a 54.40, while Scannell jumped 20 feet and 5 inches as the Trojans scored 65 points overall, finishing behind School of the Ozarks (144) and Spokane (132.5).
"I was really impressed," said Southwest coach Steve Voyak. "It was Trevor's first gold of the season, and John rebounded after finishing second in the hurdles. But the whole group really put it together."
Sophomore Travis Sickles also had a stellar meet, running second in the 800 (2:12.69) and third in the mile. (4:58.00). Sickles and Sneed also helped the 4x400 relay team place 3rd in 3:59.60. Freshmen Christian Long and Haiden Sanders rounded of the quartet. sophomore Isaac Starr was fourth in the discus in 91-2 and sixth in the shot in 31-11.
On the girls side, Sophomore Brylee Wilson won the mile (6:35.84) and the 800 (2:43.41) and placed third in the high jump (4-0) to lead the Lady Trojans to 37.5 points and fifth place in the team standings. Senior Laisha Sanchez was the only other Southwest runner to medal with a bronze in the 400 in 1:15.31. Freshman Eden Morris was fourth in the 200 (31.31) and fifth in the 100 (15.03).
Blackhawk Relays
The Southwest boys were 10th of 14 teams, while the girls were 12th of 17 at Pea Ridge. Scannell placed fourth in the hurdles in 17.13 and Wilson was eighth in the 800 in 2:53.80. Other highlights: Sickles was sixth in the 800 in 2:18.66 and eighth in the mile in 2:18.66, Long was 10th in the mile in 4:25 and senior Mariah Munday was 12th in the long and triple jump. Southwest goes to Pierce City and East Newton this week.
