Barry County’s new Recorder of Deeds position will go to Danielle Still after last night’s Primary Election. Still took the Republican nod with a landslide victory, collecting 59 percent of the vote in a four-candidate Republican race.
Still faced three opponents in the race: Rodger Emo, Angela Coones and Reese Hilburn.
When asked about her victory, Still said, “I’m excited. I had lots of family and supporters with me, so it made for a great evening.
“I want to thank everyone that supported me and I’m eager to get in and start serving the citizens of Barry County.”
Coones took 31 percent of the vote, Emo had 6 percent and Hilburn came in with 4 percent.
Opponent Angela Coones, the current deputy recorder for the county, said, “I’m disappointed in the results, but I wish Danielle good luck. The only thing I guess I could have done better is to let the public know I was busy doing the job instead of being out campaigning. I played fair and honorably and I’m proud of the how I did.”
Another opponent, Rodger Emo, said, “I think the people made the comment for what they wanted.”
Hilburn said, “I wasn’t really surprised, it went how I expected.” Hilburn said he may isn’t ruling out running for office again in the future.
In the final, unofficial numbers, Still received 3,229 votes of the 6,571 ballots cast. Coones received 1,711, Emo 323 and Hilburn 221. Still carried 15 of the precincts and the absentee ballots, only losing the lead in the Monett City precinct, which favored Coones.
Still said she is excited to get her feet wet, “To start with, I’d like to get in and learn the roles and duties of the recorder’s office.”
No other parties had candidates for the Recorder of Deeds position. Still will be unopposed in the November election. Her duties will begin January 1, 2019.
