SWFFA members attend Hymax Academy at Camp Rising Sun

July 11, 2018
Allison Corwin and Laney Moore, members from the Southwest’s FFA Chapter, attended the sixth annual HYMAX Academy from June 15 to June 17, 2018. The Academy was sponsored by the Missouri FFA Association and was held at Camp Rising Sun located within the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. The institute provided extensive leadership and advocacy training for the top 100 incoming sophomores in FFA chapters across Missouri. The high school students were selected out of many applicants to attend this specialized Academy.
Academy members received training from MO State FFA Officers as well as past MO State FFA Officers, Agricultural Educators, MO FFA State Staff and other individuals involved in agriculture. Students learned how to overcome obstacles in their Supervised Agricultural Experience programs and developed their communication and agricultural advocacy skills.
The experiences gained at HYMAX Academy help fulfill the National FFA Organization Mission, “The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” Nationally, there are nearly 650,000 FFA members fulfilling this mission. Missouri ranks sixth in the nation with over 25,000 FFA members.
