The new glass shop in Aurora is truly a family affair. The Phillips' family always knew they wanted to have a family business, and now, they are living that dream after being in the area for over 25 years.
Jeff and Melody Phillips officially opened the doors to the new spot on the Aurora downtown square on September 1. The Glass Shop, LLC, is a labor of love for the Phillips and their two sons, Kyndall Phillips and Matt Winkle.
Melody said the venture stared because of Jeff's magic gift with all things glass. She said, "He started in the glass business in high school and ended up going to college and coming back and going into the glass business."
Then, Kyndall and Matt also went into the trade. In all, the family has over 40 years experience fixing all things glass. In the family, Melody said she is having to do the most on-the-job training to help run the business.
Jeff is regularly called "The Door Guru" by his cohorts as they have never seen a door that he couldn't fix.
Melody said that business is good so far with her and Jeff running things, and they hope both of their sons can join the business full time. She said, "So far, everything has been going great. People who have come in are glad that we are here. We joined the chamber and had a ribbon cutting ceremony. It's been wonderful."
The Glass Shop focuses on multiple different aspects of the business, offering a wide variety of services to the community. They do new windows, doors, storm doors and more. They also do replacement glass in doors and windows, as well as tables, outdoor furniture and mirrors. Melody added, "If it's glass, we'll fix it or put it in."
On the commerce side of the business, the shop does door repairs, new door sales, glass replacements, new store front windows and they offer a 24-hour emergency board up service.
For homes, The Glass Shop offers new vinyl or aluminum windows, glass replacements, rescreening and new screens, tempered class for fireplaces, pyroceram for wood stoves, storm windows, and doors.
For auto glass, they do replacement of all auto glass, flat glass pattern cutting for older makes, exterior mirrors and windshield repairs.
They also do shower enclosures.
While their business is focused on glass, the family says the added benefits include meeting new people and having something new and different to do every day. They say they are working hard to meet customers' demands and leave them satisfied with every project.
During their Grand Opening, The Glass Shop held a give away. The winners of their drawing were: Patti Matthews, shower door; Andrew Leach, new windshield; Kenneth Zielinski, vanity mirror; and Crystal Lowe, windshield chip repair.
The Glass Shop is located at 327 South Madison Avenue in Aurora on the square. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Contact them by phone at (417) 229-5550, fax (417) 229-5536, online at theglassshopllc.com, by email at [email protected] or on Facebook under The Glass Shop, LLC.
