The Newsies were once again named the champions of Trivia Night, an annual fundraiser for the Cassville Education Fund. The Newsies, sponsored by the Barry County Advertiser and the Cassville Democrat, took the trophy back from the Cassville High School knowledge bowl team, named the Fighting Trout, who took top honors last year.
Trivia Night this year had a record-breaking 15 teams compete for charity, netting over $2,500 for the Cassville Education Fund, which helps provide money to various teachers and departments for non-budgeted classroom items and various educational projects. It is a permanent endowment fund dedicated to educational needs.
This year’s Smarty Pants award was given to Team 021, representing the Cassville Branch Library. The Smarty Pants award is given to the team with the most trivia-only points during the evening.
The Dum-Dum award, which is given to the team with the fewest points, was given to the Smart Cats, representing the Cassville School teaching staff.
Emcee Rachael Freeman led the evening, which attracted a crowd of over 150 people. The competition includes four rounds of trivia questions featuring subjects from history and sports to geography and science, and minute-to-win-it games for bonus points in between rounds.
Each year, Trivia Night is held in the Cassville High School commons area and brings groups of friends, family and coworkers together to compete for charity.
