Community members gathered at the Toastmasters Open House in Cassville last week.
Ezra DeVore
The Barry Lawrence Toastmasters, a local organization designed to impart skills and confidence for success, held an open house at the Cassville Public Library to let people in the community know about what Toastmasters has to offer and how it can be of personal benefit to them.
Rhona Stafford, an orchestrator of this open house, states of the organization:
“Toastmasters will give a person the skills and confidence they need to effectively express themself in any situation. Toastmasters focuses on five core competencies: Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Strategic Leadership, Management and Confidence. With 11 learning paths to choose from, you will have the option to pick which skills you want to focus on. Those paths are Dynamic Leadership, Effective Coaching, Engaging Humor, Innovative Planning, Leadership Development, Motivational Strategies, Persuasive Influence, Presentation Mastery, Strategic Relationships, Team Collaboration and Visionary Communication.
“Toastmasters gives individuals the opportunity for personal and professional development by improving their leadership and communication skills. Being able to express themselves confidently in front of an audience is a learned skill that has immense benefits, personally and professionally, at work, in a club, and even at home.”
Barry Lawrence Toastmasters meets every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Cassville Library.
“We would love for people to come and check it out,” Stafford continues. “We also have the option for participation by Zoom.”
Stating her experience and pride in the organization, Stafford says that her eight years have assured her that she is on the right path.
“When I first joined I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing, but through my experience with Toastmasters, I have been able to find my voice while learning to tell my story. It’s not just about public speaking, it helps to build one on one communication skills and listening skills. Through giving and receiving feedback it has allowed me to grow. I enjoy assisting fellow Toastmasters in developing their communication and leadership skills. Watching them grow in their confidence is rewarding to me.”
