For residents in the Seligman area, shopping options will increase by this December with the addition of a Walmart Express in the southern Barry County town.
The store broke ground last week according to Erica Jones, senior manager of communications for Walmart, in an interview. Jones said that the store hopes to open in mid-December and that a grand opening ceremony and a community event are in the planning stages. She stated, “We’re excited to be a part of the Seligman community and can’t wait for everyone to come in and see the store.”
The store’s location will be at the intersection of Highway 112 and Highway 37 in Seligman. Once completed, the store will be around 12,000 square feet and will house a variety of departments. Walmart Express stores are a fairly new addition to the Walmart chain, bringing smaller stores to communities that need more options but don’t have the population for a supercenter or a neighborhood market.
Inside the store, customers can expect to see fresh produce, dairy, meats, grocery, deli, some baked goods and limited household goods. Jones said, “This will also allow customers to take full advantage of our Site to Store option. Let’s say that they are looking for a new tv. They will be able to order online and then pick it up at their local store at that counter when they get their milk and bread.” Site to Store allows people to purchase goods through Walmart.com and then have the items shipped directly to their store for pickup to save shipping costs.
The Seligman location, when opened, will have around 30 employees between full-time and part-time associates. While the hours have not been set for this particular location, Jones said that typically the hours for Express stores are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The store will also have a pharmacy with a licensed pharmacist on staff.
Jones said that more details about the grand opening celebration and planned activities will be available closer to December.
