Cities in Barry County are making plans for Christmas parades: the traditional annual events that spell candy and Santa for wide-eyed children.
• Washburn: December 4, 10 a.m.
Washburn’s Christmas Parade will proceed from the Washburn Baptist Church to the Southwest Middle School. Trophies will be awarded to first, second, and third place float entries, in addition to a $125 prize.
• Exeter: December 4, 1:30 p.m.
Exeter’s Christmas parade will proceed from Front Street, southward. After the parade, Santa will be at City Hall with gift bags for children.
• Cassville: December 4, 6 p.m.
Line-up will begin at 4 p.m. in front of the field house on Meadow Drive and proceed to Clover Street.
First-place awards will be presented in the following categories:
• Marching bands
• Single-unit vehicle, best decorated
• Single-unit vehicle, oldest
• Single vehicle, most unusual
• Horse-drawn
A first-place traveling award will be presented in the following categories:
• Religious
• Non-religious
• Commercial
A “Kids’ Choice Award,” sponsored by Hutchens Construction, will also be presented. The winner of “Best Float” will receive $1,000.
• Wheaton: December 11, 6 p.m.
On December 10, Wheaton will hold a Christmas Light Contest for those who have utilities with the city of Wheaton, though residing within city limits is not required for entry. The first, second, and third place winners will be announced after the Wheaton Christmas parade on December 11.

The 41st annual Wheaton Winter Wonderland Christmas Parade will be held on December 11 at 6 p.m. Line-up will begin at the Body of Christ Ministries, and the parade will proceed to the end of the school parking lot.
Free hot dogs, chili and hot chocolate will be served in the City Park after the parade by Wheaton FFA and the Wheaton Student Council.
Awards for first, second, and third place will be given to the winners of seven categories in the parade: religious floats, non-religious floats, marching units/bands, horses, tractors, cars & trucks, and miscellaneous.
• Seligman: December 11, 2 p.m.
Seligman’s Christmas parade will begin near Dollar General and proceed to City Hall. After the parade, stop by the City Hall Community building for photo opportunities with Santa, where children will be given a gift bag.
• Purdy: December 18, 11 a.m.
Purdy’s Christmas parade will begin at the high school parking lot and proceed to Country Corner. There is no charge to enter the parade. For more information, people may contact Julie Terry at 417-236-4139.
