Wheaton Fastrip robbery suspect apprehended

Johnathan Worthington, 38, of Wheaton, has been apprehended following an armed robbery that involved the theft of approximately $211 from the Fastrip convenience store in Wheaton.
According to a statement of probable cause filed by Wheaton Police Chief Clint Danforth, on January 5, 2023, an employee of the Wheaton Fastrip reported a robbery to the Wheaton Police Department. The individual reported that a male subject entered the store, pointed a firearm at him, and demanded money. The witness stated that he complied and reported the event to the police. Management from Fastrip stated that approximately $211.00 in cash was taken from the register.
Per a follow-up report, it was concluded that in addition to Worthington, a second subject was also in the vehicle that was used for the robbery.
This individual was interviewed at the Barry County Sheriff's Office. During the interview, they stated that Worthington went into a convenience store to get money and, while pointing a gun at the clerk, took money from the store.
Worthington reportedly circled the store once, pulled back in, and put on his mask. He retrieved a firearm from under the driver's seat and entered the store.
This report matches the video surveillance footage obtained by Fastrip cameras. Additionally, the vehicle in the footage, a black 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, was recovered at a residence in Verona and belonged to Worthington.
After an investigation, it was determined that the subject was Jonathan Worthington, Chief Danforth states.
Worthington has a previous criminal history of domestic violence in California and was prohibited from possessing a firearm at the time of the robbery.
Worthington stands charged with one count each of robbery in the first degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was booked into Barry County Jail on the day of the robbery with a bond of $100,000.
