A Wheaton man is in custody charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and domestic assault in the first degree after a violent outburst. According to affidavits of probable cause, Thomas Goodin Wade, 49, of Wheaton, attacked a victim while intoxicated, striking her in the face with a shotgun.
The Barry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence on Davidson in Wheaton on Saturday, November 5. Deputy Kerry Headrick reported that Wade destroyed several items in the home and chased an 11 year old child through the yard until he hid at a neighbor’s residence in fear.
Then, Wade allegedly struck another victim in the face with the stock of a shotgun, causing her mouth to bleed. He also reportedly forced the victim onto their bed and onto broken glass, causing a laceration on her thigh.
The victim also claimed Wade kicked the front door in, hitting her, pulled her up by her hair and hit her in the head with a piece of door frame before she blacked out. Wade had been drinking for approximately seven hours when this all occurred, according to the probable cause.
Wade is currently being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash-only bond. Headrick reported he has a prior criminal history.
