While sports are currently suspended at Cassville R-IV, there are still plans to resurface the track for athletes, the first time since maintenance was performed in 2011.
Then, the track was stripped down to the asphalt and a new rubberized surface was placed on top of it. About one and a half inches of surfacing materials were installed at that point. This type of surface requires maintenance every few years depending on the use.
“The rubberized surface provides an appropriate running surface for our track athletes,” Dr. Richard Asbill, superintendent at Cassville Public Schools, said. “And it provides a great walking surface for our community to exercise on.”
Three companies bid on the resurfacing project, with Fisher Track, the same company who did the original installation in 2011, coming in with the lowest bid. The cost, repair and repainting of the track cost $59,019.
“Cassville Schools want all of our programs to have outstanding facilities, resources, and equipment. When we host track meets or other athletic events, others schools notice. We are proud we can provide outstanding facilities that are economically planned and maintained,” Asbill continued.
