On March 1, James and Shannon Beemer will be opening Zone 4 Mini Golf & More as a new family-friendly attraction, hosting miniature golf, axe throwing, batting cages, and a variety of entertainment, including but not limited to music. In addition to the activities listed, the property will also be home to a general store that will house Missouri/locally made soft drinks, snacks, antiques, and other goods.
James and Shannon Beemer, of the northwestern Missouri town of Maryville, say that although they’re not from Barry County originally, they have come to happily call it home, living near the Arkansas border in Shell Knob.
Shannon states that her love for the Ozarks began when she was a child. Her grandparents would drive her five hours south to Roaring River every summer. Shannon says that these summer vacations gave her no shortage of fond memories of the region.
“This whole area is a special place to me. We love the Ozarks, how friendly the people are. Everyone’s been so nice,” she said.
“She brought me down after we got married, and I loved it too, just loved the area - I love nature,” James added.
Coming from a career selling portable buildings, James explains that since he was a boy, he’s always had the dream of owning his own miniature golf course.
“I always thought it would be fun,” he says. Even having a brief history in professional golf in 2000, James opted to spend this time with his wife and two young children instead of being on the road for competitions.
However, when the opportunity to pursue that dream arose, the Beemers stated that they purchased the 4.2 acres of land in May of 2022 and began serious construction in late August. James also adds that the performance stage was built in honor of his best friend, Steve Thompson, who survived his battle with a rare bone cancer, and has a deep passion for music. Thompson will be acting as a talent scout, James states.
Zone 4 will also be home to the world's longest outside hole, at 535 feet long.
Zone 4 Mini Golf & More will open on March 1, 2023, at 16007 State Highway 76, Cassville.
