Cassville’s annual fall Chili & Salsa Cook-Off brought out sizable crowds in spite of the unseasonably cold weather and the threats of COVID-19.
Sponsored by the Cassville Chamber of Commerce, the event is one of the chamber’s most popular of the year.
“It’s actually more of a fun fall festival, than a contest of battling chili-cookers,” said chamber director, Rachael Selby.
Some 70 craft and other vendors were in attendance, including the Kona ice truck. Owner David Compton reported that business for his product was a bit slow given the chilly weather.
In the “People’s Choice” category, Whitley’s Pharmacy, in Cassville, home the coveted top prize for both their chili and salsa.
A panel of judges deemed The Barry County Treatment Court’s chili and salsa their favorites.
Runner-up in the People’s Choice category was Arning Companies, of Cassville, who were chosen as “Best Decorated” and “Most Spirited.”
The judge’s panel gave the second place award to Lumpy’s Truck n’ Chili, from Pea Ridge, for their chili.
The third place chili prize went to Whitley’s Pharmacy.
In the salsa category, the judges awarded second place to Arning Companies and third place to the Barry County Democrats.
