Barry County Jail to close effective June 1

The Barry County Jail, located at 505 East Street in Cassville, will be closing effective June 1, 2024.
According to Barry County Sheriff Danny Boyd, due to the current condition of the jail and the cost of upkeep, the jail will be closing for the safety of inmates and correctional officers.
Inmates will be transferred to other facilities in the area and jail staff will be able to use comp time and file for unemployment. Current jail staff will be called back in September 2024 to begin training for the opening of the new 30,000 sq. ft. facility, located on Old Exeter Road in Cassville, in October 2024.
