Barry County MU Extension board holds annual meeting, swears in new members

The Barry County MU Extension annual meeting was held on Thursday, February 9, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cassville. Becky Wogoman, Barry County Extension Council Chair, opened the meeting, and John Cutburth gave the invocation before supper, which John Sullivan catered. Barry County Clerk Joyce Ennis and Barry County Presiding Commissioner Steve Blankenship were in attendance.
Regional Director Sarah Haven shared her vision during the meeting to "Bring the knowledge of the University of Missouri to all Missourians, to be an outreach for education for Southwest Missouri and residents of Barry County."
Two retiring council members received recognition for their dedication to the Extension, Georgia Whitlock and Rosario Keele.
Although Rosario Keele is taking a year's leave from the University of Missouri Extension, she stated she would continue working with the School of Music and the International Department at MU in Columbia, promoting Education at the local and international levels.

New council member Twila Harrison gave a presentation, alongside retiring member Georgia Whitlock, on the newly re-named Victory Home Gardening community garden in Shell Knob. Harrison, Whitlock, and community member started the garden in 2020 during the COVID pandemic in partnership with MU Extension Horticulture, Barry County 4-H club, United Methodist Church, Shell Knob School students and parents.
Becky Wogoman and Carolyn Kiltz received Outstanding Leadership Awards.
MU Extension is a unique funding partnership of federal, state, and county governments. Federal and state money, through the MU system, pays professional staff salaries, training costs, computers, and communication equipment. County funds support local office, secretarial, youth assistant salaries, staff mileage, and council expenses. Local donations can be made directly to the Barry County Extension to be used immediately or as an endowment contribution for long-term efforts.
