Brice's Towing delivers Thanksgiving groceries

Tis the season for turkey and the trimmings, and a Brice’s Towing tradition that began six years ago when Brice Stehlik, owner of Brice’s Towing in Cassville, asked his wife Carmen why they couldn’t provide the groceries for a Thanksgiving meal for a family in need. Carmen replied that she thought they could.
“I liked his idea,” Carmen said, “so we put it in action. That first year, we bought groceries for two families in the area who we knew could use the help. The second year, friends and family members stepped forward with donations to cover the cost of the groceries, so we were able to buy for five families. The following couple of years, we bought groceries for ten or 12 families, and this year, for the second time in a row, we’re providing Thanksgiving groceries for 15 families.”
Carmen Stehlik said they do not cook, nor do they deliver the groceries to homes. They simply make a grocery list for the number of families they’re buying for and set off for the store.
“We shop whereever we can get the best deals,” she said. “We have a good system down; we load up several cartloads of groceries, then go home and separate them
into a basket or bag for each family.”
Stehlik said they stick to a simple meal plan: turkey, potatoes, boxed dressing mix, canned vegetables, dinner
rolls and frozen pumpkin pies and whipped topping.
Delivery, too, they keep simple.
“We set a location, a day and a time, and have people meet us there,” Stehlik said.
The families who benefit are chosen mostly through word of mouth and Facebook, according to Stehlik.
“Since people have learned we are doing this, we have interested people contact us - either for themselves
or on behalf of someone else,” she said.
Stehlik emphasized again how much donations are appreciated.
