On Saturday, June 22, the Butterfield Firefighters Auxiliary will host the first ever Butterfield Truck and Tractor Pull. The event will take place at Twister Alley Raceway, located on 1st Street in Butterfield, near the location of the Butterfield Fire Department and new city hall.
This show was put together in conjunction with Spring River Pulling Association, Butterfield’s Twister Alley Raceway and 57 other sponsors from all across the surrounding area.
Twister Alley Raceway is co-owned by Butterfield mayor Tony Cope, who donated the land for use in the pull.
Contestant entry into the event will cost $15 for members of the Auxiliary and $20 for non-members. General admission for spectators will cost $10 for adults, and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge. Ticket sales will open at 4 p.m. the day of the event and can be purchased at Twister Alley Raceway.
The truck and tractor pull will feature 24 weight classes pulling against one another for a 300 foot run.
There will be a concession stand, serving up hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and snow cones. Food is not included with the price of admission.
All proceeds from admissions and concessions will go to benefit the Butterfield Firefighter’s Auxiliary. This organization uses funds to buy various support goods for the Butterfield Fire Department. The Auxiliary also works on-scene with the fire department, providing water and Gatorade, as well as aid to families and fire victims, such as food and emotional support.
The Butterfield Firefighters Auxiliary is funded entirely through community support, fundraising and donations. They have two other main fundraisers, a yearly chili supper, and a country breakfast event that takes place every other month throughout the summer months. The next country breakfast is scheduled for June 15 at Butterfield City Hall. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“We all get involved; we’re all a part of it,” said assistant fire chief Rusty Dilbeck. “Me and [fire chief Donnie Privett] have been looking for something to do to draw people to the community. Truck and tractor pulls bring a lot of people into the community. We’re hoping to get the community involved and keep this going as a yearly event.”
Dilbeck and his wife, Staci, president of the Butterfield Firefighters Auxiliary, have been working hard within the community to help organize the event.
“We all work together and in a small community, you really have to work together with everyone that you can,” said Staci.
Rusty Dilbeck stated that the event wouldn’t be possible without support of the community and local businesses. He sees the tractor pull as not only a means to raise funds for the Auxiliary, but also give back to the community by staging a family-friendly event.
“We try to give back to the community and work with the businesses within our community. The community has really stepped up to help us. We want to help give back to them. We’re very proud of our community and we wanted to do this for them,” said Rusty.
The first annual Butterfield Truck and Tractor Pull will take place on June 22 at Twister Alley Raceway, located on 1st Street in Butterfield. For more information on truck and tractor pull events and rules, contact Glen Welters of Spring River Pull Association at (636) 748-4244.
