Car wreck results in mass power outage

Evening dimmed early on May 25 as power went out across the Purdy, Monett, and Pierce City area from 3:40 - 7:30 p.m. One mile south of Monett, a Ford F150 went off the left side of Farm Road 1190 and struck a utility pole, causing the near-four hour power outage. While the driver was unharmed, the passenger was transported by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries.
Liberty Utilities reported that 1,287 Barry and Lawrence County customers had lost their power at the outage’s peak around 4 p.m.
