Cassville couple accused of neglecting special needs victim

Based on probable cause statements signed by Detective Danny Boyd, of the Cassville Police Department, on May 18, 2020, warrants were issued for the arrest of 27-year-old Tiffany Morango and her fiancé, 38-year-old Lee Robert Schroeder, III, both of Cassville. The pair were booked into the Barry County Jail on May 28 where they are currently held with bond set at $50,000 each.
According to the sheriff’s department, they are each charged with Abuse or Neglect of a Child, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk.
According to the probable cause statement, Detective Boyd assisted Barry County Children’s Division with a child neglect case on January 29, 2020, in which the victim was in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Springfield allegedly being treated for malnourishment. The special needs (child), who requires extensive care, had been taken to the hospital the previous night after experiencing a seizure, the statement indicated.
According to the statement, while in the hospital, medical personnel noted that the victim was alleged to be very weak, had lacerations, sores and bruising throughout his body, was dehydrated and malnourished, and appeared to be improperly fed and bathed.
Prior to going to the hospital for treatment, the statement continued, the victim had been in the direct care of his mother, Tiffany Morango, and her fiancé, Lee Robert Schroeder, III.
According to Cassville Police Chief, Dana Kammerlohr, the (child) was taken into protective services at that time, then placed in foster care.
According to Boyd’s statement, in the past, Morango allegedly fled from Oregon while being investigated by Oregon DHS, and Schroeder has relatives in California where he mentioned going.
