Over 1,000 students participated in the Cassville FFA Food For America event held at Cassville Schools on Friday, September 30.
The event is held annually for preschool through eighth grade with the goal to teach students about local agriculture. Seventy-five FFA members engaged and assisted during the day's event.
This year's event was different from past events according to Cassville High School Ag Teacher Jordan Ellis. Primary and Intermediate students were taught animal and plant based agriculture lessons with presentations on farm animals, butter making, seed planting, bee keeping, as well as medicinal farming.
In conjunction with Farm Safety Week, presenters taught 6th and 7th graders about agriculture machinery and the importance of safety. Several types of machinery were on hand, from four wheelers to combines to balers, for students to get an up close look.
There were fifteen local presenters who spoke with 8th graders about agriculture related careers.
