April 29, 2015
Rachael Freeman After interviewing candidates both in-house and out of the district, Cassville Schools has hired their next Athletic Director. The position became available earlier this semester when current Athletic Director Ben Abramovitz extended his resignation. Cassville hired Doug Martin from Ash Grove for the position. At Ash Grove, Martin was the head football coach as well as the health and physical education teacher. According to Cassville Schools Superintendent Dr. Richard Asbill, Martin will officially take over as Athletic Director beginning in July but the district is looking to ask him to do some transitional duties as early as June so they can expedite the transition for Martin as well as the District. Asbill stated, “Doug brings a wealth of experience and leadership in athletics and budget management. Doug’s experience in both the small and large school district venue provides him a great balance to understand all the needs of each sport and the need to work with other activity programs when students are shared among several programs. “His approach to issues and challenges has been professional and he understands that our District and parents want programs that are progressing forward and improving.” The positions official title is Activities/Athletic Director. Martin’s duties will include being in charge of supervising all extracurricular programs, faculty usage, transportation coordination, budget management, and program development for all sports. |
