Cosper Memorial Highway designated
August 11, 2021
Sheila Harris
A portion of Highway 37 between County Roads 1060 and 1062, south of Washburn, will be designated as the Mgst. Carl Cosper Jr. Memorial Highway by the signing of Senate Bill 520 by Governor Parson on July 14. The memorial designation will become effective August 28.
Msgt. Cosper, a deputy with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office was killed in a traffic accident while on duty April 7, 2017.
The Senate bill appoints the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to erect and maintain memorial signage on the highway, but MoDOT requires that $3,200 of private funds be paid to them before the signs will be erected.
A Go Fund Me account has been established by Kathy Emo and Charlotte Olson of the Sheriff’s Office for the solicitation of the funds. All funds collected will go directly to the Carl Cosper Memorial Highway sign account.
Those interested in helping establish the highway memorial sign in Cosper’s name may donate to the fund at https://www.gofundme.com/f/master-sergeant-carl-t-cosper-memorial-highway?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer.
