County collector Janice Varner announces resignation

May 1, 2019
Charlea Estes-Jones

Longtime Barry County Collector Janice Varner announced April 1 that she will be resigning from her office on June 30, 2019, at midnight. In the letter sent to Governor Michael Parson announcing her decision to resign, Varner cited her need to devote more time to her family.
The letter stated, "It has been my distinct pleasure and honor to serve the citizens of Barry County as the elected Collector of Revenue."
It continues, "I will always be grateful for the opportunity afforded to me."
Varner has served as collector for Barry County since January 2003 after being elected for the first time in November 2002. She was reelected for her seat in November 2018.
Varner's vacant seat will be determined by an appointment by Governor Parson. While there is no formal nomination process, interested parties could notify the  local political committees or governor's office for consideration
