Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob celebrated the Christmas season with a luncheon at the Barn at Bear Ridge on Dec 13. The Barn was a perfect venue for members to display holiday quilts draped over the railing on the mezzanine level. Trish and Brett Rapien, the owners, added their own family quilts draped over tables and benches and hanging on walls. They prepared a delicious lunch and shared the history of their quilts, two of which were brought from Russia to the U.S. when their grandparents immigrated in the 1800s. Quilts were everywhere, turning the barn into a beautiful quilt gallery for the party.
Discovery Quilters Guild has much to celebrate.
“We are once again holding in-person meetings and enjoying the fellowship we value so much,” said member EJ Adams. “Our 2021 quilt show was a great success and we have resumed educational activities, so that we will have new skills to exhibit at the next show in 2023.
“Our missions continued throughout Covid, presenting Quilts of Valor to veterans at Shakin’ in the Shell and distributing comfort quilts to friends and family who experienced illness or loss of loved ones,” she said. “We all contribute time to making baby quilts for new mothers with limited resources, giving a total of 149 quilts to Barry and Stone County health departments, Pregnancy Lifeline in Branson West and the Purple Flower Domestic Shelter in Berryville in 2021. With an extraordinary donation of fabric from the Quilted Cow in Branson West, we are also making burp cloths, bibs, and receiving blankets for the new moms.”
The guild meets on the 4th Monday of each month and welcomes guests.
Adams says the guild has members who are beginning quilters, as well as some who are very-accomplished. Meetings begin at 9:30 a.m.. and are held at the Central Community United Methodist Church on Hwy. YY in Shell Knob.
