A Roaring River Expedition Dive Team member died on Friday, October 14, at the Spring at Roaring River State Park.
Eric Hahn, 27, of Blacksburg, Virginia, was placing equipment below the surface of the Spring for the monthly weekend dive on Friday morning when a tragic accident took his life.
According to Sgt. Mike McClure with the Missouri Highway Patrol, they have taken possession of the dive equipment Hahn was using at the time of death.
The cause of death is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing pending autopsy.
Due to the depth of retrieval, Hahn's body was recovered by KISS Roaring River Expedition Dive Team members just after 4 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen.
The KISS Roaring River Dive Team set the record for the deepest spring in the nation in November 2021 at 472 feet, and hoped to break that record in last weekend's dive.
The dive team returned to the Spring on Saturday, where they retrieved equipment and no further dives are scheduled at this time with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources at Roaring River State Park.
Hahn was a software engineer by trade and a member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad as an EMT as well as Technical Rescue.
