We are just over a week away from the Cassville Chamber of Commerce Chili and Salsa Cookoff taking over downtown Cassville.
The themed event will see over eighty vendors, with nine competing in the chili and four in the salsa competitions. This year’s theme is The Wizard of Oz, and vendors and patrons are encouraged to dress for the theme. Tasting kits for the competition will cost $3.00 each (cash only) and will be available at the Cassville Chamber tent on the corner of West and 7th Streets. Event t-shirts ($20.00) and stickers ($2.00) at the Chamber booth will also be available. Beads in the tasting kits allow patrons to vote for People’s Choice Best Chili, People’s Choice Best Salsa, Best Decorated, and Most Spirited. Competitors will also compete for Judge’s Choice Best Chili and Judge’s Choice Best Salsa.
The October 28 festival will run from 8 a.m. -2 p.m., with Chili and Salsa service beginning at noon. There will be a live DJ and games, crafts, and a miniature train ride for the kids. The First Baptist Church, located on the square, will host free pancakes, sausage, coffee, and hot chocolate breakfast at 8 a.m.
Parking will be available at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center parking lot and along side streets surrounding the festival. Patrons are asked to be courteous to residents and not block driveways.
The Cassville Chamber of Commerce will continue to take vendor applications at www.Cassville.com through October 20.
The Show will celebrate its 30th anniversary of local music talent performances on October 26 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and October 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cassville Middle School FEMA Event Center.
This year, we will see 35 local performers covering various music styles. Four of these have been in production since its inception 30 years ago: backing vocalist Don Bowen, backstage manager Carolyn Bowen, Brenda Beck on percussion, and band leader and percussionist Greg Beck. The Show will also see two new performers this year: CHS vocal teacher Alex Clearbrook and Andy Anderson, an understudy at a theater show in Branson. This year’s theme is “The Life We Live,” the always-entertaining Drake Thomas will return as emcee and band leader Greg Beck pointed out that this year’s Show will have a surprise ending.
“We would like to pack the house for all three shows this year,” said Beck. “One, because it’s the 30th year of The Show, and two, this year’s Show is a fundraiser for the Cassville Band Boosters Club. The Show and the Cassville Chamber of Commerce members are excited to help with this band booster project.”
All proceeds from ticket sales and concession sales will be donated to the Cassville Band Boosters Club to benefit the Cassville High School Marching Band.
Tickets are $10 each, available at local banks, the Cassville Chamber of Commerce office, and at the door. Tables are available for $150, each seat up to eight, and include light refreshments. Tables are sold out at the October 28 performance.
The Cassville High School Band will perform at each performance 30 minutes before show time, so arrive early.
