Members of the community were busy last week getting preparing for the Cassville Main Street Association’s Festival of Trees, a fundraiser geared at improving the downtown Cassville area.
The silent auction for decorated trees will take place on December 6, the day of the Cassville Christmas parade, but the trees are displayed at the Towneley building at 805 Main Street until then. The day of the auction, decorated trees will be displayed from noon until 6 p.m. with the auction closing at 5 p.m.
Also, on the day of the auction, the CMSA will have white boards on display showing planned projects for the downtown area as provided by the DREAM Initiative, a group made up of the Missouri Development Finance Board, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, and the Missouri Housing Development Commission. All funds raised will go to fund those upcoming projects. Members of the CMSA board will also be available to answer questions.
In addition to the three trees being sold by silent auction, there are also a variety of miniature trees that have been decorated for OACAC families. The public will be able to vote for their favorite miniature tree with pennies. This event is a preview of a larger Festival of Trees in the works for 2015.
According to Carolyn Bishop, of the CMSA, the project will be much bigger and include events like a story time with Mrs. Claus, carolers, photo ops and crafts in 2015. Bishop said, “We hope to make it a two day event, or possibly even longer for next year. It’ll give other organizations the opportunity to get involved.”
This year, board members and Silver Leaf Benefit Club were the ones who decorated the trees and prepared for the event. The auction trees include a five-foot tree decorated by Silver Leaf, a traditional seven-foot tree done by Allison Angel, and a chartreuse tree designed by Jay Reed and Steven Burcham. All of the miniature trees were decorated by board members and employees from Dan Angel’s CPA office.
