Filing open for local government positions

The next local general election may not be until Tuesday, April 7, 2020, but that hasn’t stopped the gears of democracy from shifting. Beginning on Tuesday, December 17, filings will be open for candidates looking to run in local municipal elections. Filings close for all positions on Tuesday, January 21.
In Cassville, alderman seats in the north and south wards will be up for election in 2020. The current incumbent for Cassville’s north ward is Jerry Marple. The incumbent for the south ward is Mike Vining. Both positions carry a two-year term.
At this time, both Vining and Marple have filed for re-election and are the only two to do so.

The city of Exeter also features two alderman seats on the ballot for 2020. Both the north ward alderman seat, currently occupied by Tasha McNabb, and the south ward seat, occupied by Tyler Henderson, will be up for election. Both positions carry a two-year term.
At this time, neither incumbent has filed for re-election, but one Exeter resident, Gus Robbins, has filed for election in the North Ward seat, currently occupied by McNabb.

On Wheaton’s 2020 ballot, two alderman seats in the east and west wards will be up for election. The east ward incumbent is Brandon Shockley and the west ward incumbent is Stacy Beck. Both positions carry with them a two-year return.
No filings have been received by Wheaton City Hall at this time.

In Butterfield, 2020 will see two alderman positions, as well as the mayoral seat, on the ballot. Butterfield’s west and east ward alderman seats, currently occupied by Donald Privett and Rusty Dillbeck respectively, will be on the ballot. Additionally, the mayoral seat, currently occupied by Tony Cope, will be up for election. All Butterfield positions carry a two-year term.
At this time, only the incumbent mayor, Cope, has filed for re-election.

In Purdy, three different alderman positions will be up for election next year. In ward one, Purdy has one seat, currently occupied by Robert Mosier, up for election next year. This position carries a two-year term.
In ward two, Purdy has two seats up for election, due to one alderman stepping down earlier this year. Incumbents for these seats are Brian Bowers and Dan Musgrove, who has served in the previous alderman’s place since being appointed in July of this year. The winner of the election for the first seat will serve a two-year term, while the winner of Musgrove’s seat will serve a one-year term, in order to maintain the city’s election cycle.
At this time, no filings have been received in Purdy.
