This Friday marks the kick off of the First on Front concert series of the summer in Monett hosted by First State Bank of Purdy. Friday's lineup will feature three main bands as well as an opening act voted on through a battle of the bands contest.
Amanda Lee, community banker with First State Bank, said the event is something the bank began hosting last year to bring the community together for music, fun and food. She said, "The thought behind it was to have something that brings the community together and puts an emphasis on spending time local, shopping local and eating local and listening local and banking locally. Local banks are the backbone of the community around here."
Entry to the event is completely free for the whole family.
Last year was the first year of the concert series. The bank opted to put it on in conjunction with the completion of the events pavilion. The grand opening and kick off event was held on Friday, May 4, 2018. Since then, it's become a local favorite and features a variety of bands that are family-friendly.
Lee said, "It was really well received last year, so we decided to continue it."
First on Front is hosted completely by employee volunteers from First State Bank. Lee said there are also food trucks that come in to give people local eating options during the series held each first Friday during May, June and July, as well.
Food trucks will line Front Street and Fifth Street in downtown Monett. The park and pavilion will be dedicated to the event, and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets as there is no seating.
New this year is the battle of the bands that brought one band to the top to open the event before the three headliners. Lee said, "We did a battle of the bands, and people were able to send in a video to kick off the series. At the May event, Audio Prophets Band from Springfield, a Christian Rock band will kick off from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
"Three finalist videos were shared on Facebook since we had criteria to be considered, and it was through likes, shares and comments through Facebook to determine the winner."
The other acts will be The Pretty Lonesome from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., Jake Stringer and Better Than Nothin' from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Mark Chapman Band from 8:45 p.m. to 10 p.m.
For up-to-date information, there is a Facebook page dedicated to First on Front. Future lineups are also listed on the First on Front Facebook page.
